SW-111 WROUGHT IRON

19.99

Mayco SW-111 Wrought Iron creates a variegated, mottled black satin-matte finish that resembles high-fire oil spot glazes. Typically, these types of glazes require a thick application, and a reduction atmosphere is needed to achieve the matte effect. Wrought Iron achieves this result in just two coats, fired to Cone 6 (1220C) in an oxidation atmosphere. Cone 10 (1300C): The color shifts to a dark metallic gray.

TIP: The thinner the glaze coat, the browner it appears; the thicker the coat, the blacker it becomes. This glaze is not completely matte – it features a matte surface with glossy inclusions. Due to its high manganese content, blistering may occur when applied to speckled clay bodies.
